The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration (IICRC) Resilient Floor Maintenance Technician (RFMT) certification course and exam is up for revision. A select group of individuals are being assembled to join the Technical Advisory Committee for this certification revision. Stan Hulin, Committee Chair, explains, “The committee objectives are to examine and revise the existing Certification Program Description (CPD) and Exam to ensure that it is current and up-to-date with contemporary flooring material standards and methodologies for maintaining them.”

Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) from various trades are needed to help revise this certification to ensure all areas of expertise are represented. As Stan points out, “This will be an exciting opportunity for those chosen to step up and represent their respective crafts.” To help in this process, SME’s will be selected from three primary categories:

  • Producers
(flooring, chemical, equipment, tools and materials manufacturers)
  • Providers
    (trainers, instructors, educators and schools)
  • Consumers
(building service contractors, managers, supervisors and technicians)

The committee will meet in Las Vegas, July 17 & 18, to undergo training and review the existing program curriculum. Stan notes, “We wish to expedite the program and complete the revision by October 1, 2017, so it will not be one of those never ending committees.” The process will include sending out document for committee review followed by online meetings that will finalize the CPD specifications and exam questions. The committee participant commitment will be roughly 1 – 3 hours per week (or two) to review the material and vote in the go to meetings.
