Basic Service Procedures

This XL Academy workshop has been developed as an introductory floor maintenance course for participants who want a basic understanding of maintenance without getting into the specifics of procedures and processes.

Intended Audience

This course is designed for:

Basic Service Procedures for Hard Floor Maintenance

This workshop provides an entry level training course for individuals who are just starting out in the floor maintenance business, building service contractors or house cleaning staff. Designed to be a functional course to the teach apprentice floor maintenance technicians the primary floor maintenance service procedures and how to perform them.

Intended Audience

This course is designed for probationary and apprentice technicians.

Prerequisites

This is an introductory training course and does not require previous experience.

The Fundamentals of Hard Floor Maintenance

Fundamentals of Hard Floor Maintenance is an IICRC FCT (Floor Care Technician) approved class.  It is an introductory course designed to teach the necessary skills and knowledge needed to perform basic daily/routine, periodic and restorative cleaning and maintenance of resilient, natural stone, clay and concrete component, and wood floors. It is designed to teach students how to identify different floor types and to gain a better understanding of their individual characteristics.

Prerequisites

This is an introductory training course and requires basic understanding of fundamental hard floor maintenance.

Resilient Floor Maintenance Technician Course

This is the IICRC Resilient Floor maintenance Technician course. Participants will learn about the basic raw materials used in the manufacturing process of each of these classifications. Expanding on existing knowledge the student will learn how raw materials in these products can impact the maintenance of them. Classification identification will include common and individual characteristics and properties of the individual classifications. Students will learn the life cycle of the classifications of flooring in resilient category to include the manufacture, installation, maintenance and demolition of the products. The focus in this section will be on the manufacturing, installation and demolition procedures that may impact the cleaning and maintenance of the floor covering.

The professional technician will learn about the individual components required to provide resilient floor maintenance. These components will include chemicals, supplies (equipment, tools, and materials) and common accepted service methodologies currently in use in the industry. Participants will learn how to develop floor maintenance programs for each of the classifications. Topics of discussion in this section will focus on the life cycle of floor maintenance to include initial, daily/routine, periodic and Restorative procedures commonly used in today’s market.

Although no perquisite is required, either FCT or experience in the industry is suggested.

Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technician

This IICRC-approved certification course is designed as an academic and practical assessment of commercial carpet and maintenance processes and procedures. Emphasis will be placed on teaching the ANSI/IICRC S100 Standard for Professional Cleaning of Textile Floor Coverings, carpet cleaning methodologies, safety procedures, and developing standard operating procedures for individuals who will perform these procedures in the field.

Course graduates will have a basic understanding of the importance of preventative, daily, interim, and deep cleaning and how they contribute to the overall success of the commercial carpet maintenance program.
